Bicycle Helmets Recalled Due To Injury Hazard

Our Detroit wrongful death lawyers report on bicycle helmet recall due to injury hazard. The aerodynamic bicycle helmets manufactured by Louis Garneau has recently been recalled due to the product being an injury hazard. Our personal injury lawyers at the law firm of Goodman Acker P.C. recommend that if you or your child currently own a Louis Garneau bicycle helmet that you stop using it immediately.

The recall involves the Louis Garneau P-09 aerodynamic helmet, model number 1405362, with the manufacture date of January 2014. The manufacture date can be found on a sticker inside the helmet.

The bicycle helmet is used to help protect bicyclists from suffering serious injury, such as a brain injury, if they are involved in an accident. However, the Louis Garneau aerodynamic bicycle helmets have proven to be an injury hazard as in cold temperatures the helmet can fail to protect the wearer from impact injuries.

According to the U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 1,180 of these bicycle helmets were sold to consumers at independent bicycle dealers nationwide and online at Louisgarneau.com The helmets were sold from January 2014 through September 2014 between the price of $280 – $350.

So far no injuries have been reported, however it is the job of the U.S. CPSC to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury or death associated with the use of defective products.

In addition, federal law holds manufacturers and retailers responsible for ensuring that their products they sell to the public are safe. When they fail to do so, and a product causes injury or death to a consumer, a product liability lawsuit may be able to be filed against the manufacturer of the product (in this case Louis Garneau) and often times against the sellers of the product, such as a retail store. Cases involving the wrongful death of a consumer due to the defectiveness of a product can give rise to a wrongful death lawsuit.

Consumers who own this type of helmet can call the Louis Garneau customer service number at (800) 448-1984 Monday through Friday or email customerservice@louisgarneau.us for more information on the recall. Refunds or replacements with a similar helmet are being offered by the manufacturer.
