Mark Brewer Files Lawsuit to Seek a One-Person Grand Jury Investigation Against Governor in Flint Water Crisis

On Tuesday, October 11th, Goodman Acker Attorney Mark Brewer filed a one-person jury complaint against Governor Rick Snyder over his use of public taxpayer funds to hire private attorneys for his criminal defense regarding the Flint water case.

According to the complaint, Gov. Snyder bypassed all state laws governing procurement of goods and services when he signed a contract requiring tax payers to pay for this personal criminal legal defense of up to $2 million. Not only is this a conflict of interest in violation of the State Constitution, but a misuse of taxpayer funds and misconduct in office, alleges the complaint.

Neither the Attorney General nor any other law enforcement agency has indicated that it will conduct an investigation into Gov. Snyder’s use of tax dollars for personal criminal defense. Because of this, the Complainant requests that the Ingham County Circuit Court exercise its statutory power and convenes a one-person grand jury to investigate.

A press conference was held regarding the recently filed lawsuit.
