Detroit Personal Injury Lawyers Fighting For The Injured

$2 Million Settlement for Victim of Truck Accident

Our Michigan truck accident lawyers at Goodman Acker P.C. recently obtained a $2,000,000 settlement on behalf of our client, a college student who was run over by a semi-truck.

The accident occurred on the northbound shoulder of I-75 Expressway in Hazel Park. Our client, a 21-year old from Clinton Township, was heading home when he ran out of gas on I-75. He pulled over to the shoulder of the freeway and had a friend meet him from behind to help. Both our client and his friend were outside their cars when a semi-truck ran off the freeway, struck a concrete wall and ran over them.

Our client underwent 3 surgeries on his right leg, and had to have a permanent rod placed into his lower leg. Before going through his 2nd surgery, doctors advised our client that his leg might need to be amputated. Luckily for our client, his doctors were able to save the leg.

The surgeries our client went through permanently eliminated motion in most of his right foot and ankle. His lack of motion in his foot cannot be repaired and he will always have difficulty with walking and standing. During his testimony, our client’s doctor said “he will never be able to do significant activities that require walking or standing.” Doctors have also said that he will never be able to participate in sports and he will develop arthritis, which may require joint replacement surgery in the future.

Our client was also forced to miss a year and a half of college and had to retract a job offer he had just accepted a few weeks prior at Beaumont Hospital.

The driver of the truck testified that he fell asleep at the wheel. He was travelling at 60 miles per hour before he fell asleep. The driver also testified that he woke to mayhem. When he was asked to describe the mayhem, the truck driver said “2 destroyed cars from my negligence.”

Goodman Acker was able to help secure a $2 million settlement for the victim. Our team took care of all of his bills and made all the calls to the insurance companies, but most of all helped him every step of the way. “I am grateful for my team at Goodman Acker. Choosing Goodman Acker to help represent me against the big trucking company was a good decision,” said the victim
