Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), every American is entitled to quality, affordable health care. Unfortunately, the open enrollment period in the ACA’s Health Insurance Marketplace has not been widely advertised this year due to budget cuts under the Trump administration.
That’s why it’s crucial to enroll for coverage in 2020 between now and December 15, 2019.
If you live in Michigan, all you need to do to enroll is visit HealthCare.gov and follow the instructions on the website. If you need assistance, you can call the Marketplace call center at 1-800-318-2596. Enrollment specialists are available 24/7 throughout open enrollment, but the call center is closed on Thanksgiving.
Nearly 9 in 10 enrollees qualify for financial assistance or tax credits to reduce their monthly premiums. Depending on your income level and your coverage choices, you may only be paying $50-$100 per month for access to the doctors, specialists, and medications you need. You will also be covered in the event of an emergency, which will do wonders for your peace of mind.
Remember: your health is priceless, and we want to help you protect it!
In previous years, ACA open enrollment has been heavily advertised and accessible to all. According to Governor Gretchen Whitmer, however:
“Since the Trump administration has cut funding for the ACA enrollment promotion by nearly 90 percent, we must do everything we can to ensure that everyone knows what options are available to them to get covered. Signing up for coverage during open enrollment is simple, and there are resources available to everyone who wants help.”
At Goodman Acker P.C., we aspire to be one of the resources Governor Whitmer mentions above. We are a leader in the Detroit community and want to use our influence to educate people about getting covered.
