A fatal crash took place on I-96 near the East Beltline exit near Grand Rapids this past Sunday, September 14th due to a vehicle being driven the wrong way on the expressway.According to Michigan State Police (MSP), a woman in her 40s from Grand Rapids was driving east in the westbound lanes of I-96 when she hit a minivan. Reports conclude that the at-fault driver was also under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Wrong way car accidents unfortunately happen more than one thinks in the State of Michigan. In fact, according to the MSP this problem is not unusual for our state. "There have been several wrong-way crashes, the majority of which resulted in at least one death, on West Michigan highways this summer."

- Half of all wrong way car accidents kill or severely injure a person involved in the crash
- 75% of all wrong way crashes are the result of a driver being under the influence of alcohol
- Accidents caused by wrong-way driving are becoming more common, even as the overall fatal crash has fallen dramatically
