Larry Maitland

Director of Social Security & Trial Attorney - (248) 286-8100

Raised by two hard working parents, diligence, discipline, and caring for others were instilled in Larry Maitland at a very early age. He took these characteristics and applied them to his education. Maitland was the first person in his family to graduate college and then went on to put himself through law school. Growing up, he was drawn to the practice of law and the ability to utilize it to help others.

When he was younger, he witnessed a number of instances in which family and friends, involved in a legal matter, either did not have legal representation or the representation they did have was not adequate. These results did not sit well with him and he vowed that he would provide the highest quality representation to all individuals, no matter their position in society.

Maitland graduated with two bachelor\’s degrees from Purdue University with honors in 1999. He rowed for Purdue\’s crew team, was a member of several leadership fraternities, and served in student government. He then earned his Juris Doctorate at Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2002. At Southern Illinois, he was elected to serve as vice-president of the law school for two of his three years. In addition to being admitted to various state and federal courts, he was admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the United States in January 2014.

Larry represents a number of corporate entities who have provided medical treatment to individuals in injury cases. In addition, he also represents clients injured in all types of personal injury matters.

At Goodman Acker P.C., Maitland is the director of the Social Security department and specializes in the practice of Social Security Disability/SSI law. In the area of Social Security disability law, he has found a means to provide legal services to individuals who have been wrongly denied benefits.

In addition, Maitland focuses a great portion of his practice handling cases involving VA Benefit claims. Because he is dedicated to ensuring our nation’s veterans obtain the benefits they are entitled to receive, he works diligently to build only the strongest cases on behalf of his clients. Over the years, he has handled a countless number of these types of cases involving individuals who have received denial letters. As a result, he has successfully helped numerous clients navigate through the appeals process.

Maitland is also a member of several legal organizations including the Michigan Association for Justice, formerly known as the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan\’s Social Security Section and has been elected by its members to serve on its council the last three years. He has also spoken at several seminars about disability law.

Active in our local community, Maitland is a Knight of Columbus, an active member of Our Lady of Victory Parish in Northville, and volunteers for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). He is also a trained Community Emergency Response Team member and volunteers with his family regularly at various soup kitchens, food banks, and clothing centers.

Outside of practicing law and community involvement, Maitland enjoys spending his time outdoors and being active. It isn\’t uncommon to find him hiking, fishing, camping, rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, or hunting. He tries to experience the world by traveling as often as he can and returns with amazing photographs which cover the walls of his office. He and his wife welcomed a son in June 2015.
