Goodman Acker associate attorney Ronita Bahri has recently secured a sizable settlement of $1 million for a minor who was injured while riding his bike in Macomb County. The 14-year old boy was riding his bike along the sidewalk when he was struck by a large box truck that was pulling out of the parking lot. The boy suffered severe injuries including pelvic fractures and urethral injuries. Due to the extensive nature of his injuries, the boy had to undergo prolonged medical treatment and remained in the hospital for several months.
Attorney Bahri, a native of Iraq and a Chaldean, is trilingual, speaking her native Aramaic, Arabic (which she learned while living in Iraq and Jordan), and English here in the United States. English is not the native language for the boy and his family. Attorney Bahri was able to serve the family by communicating with them in Arabic and Aramaic.
The case was settled through facilitation in May of 2018. The injured boy and his family are now receiving fair compensation for medical and long-term costs associated with his injuries.
Bicycle accidents can result in serious and sometimes fatal injuries. If another driver or motorist is behaving recklessly or does not see you, you could experience long-term injuries similar to the boy in Attorney Bahri’s recent case. You are also at the mercy of property owners whose property you may be passing by, and anything from broken glass to uneven sidewalks could result in a crash, creating traumatic injuries and large medical expenses for you and your loved ones.
Common injuries sustained by bicyclists include:
Any of these injuries may lead to costly, protracted hospital stays, surgeries, lost wages due to time spent out of work, and a number of other large, unexpected expenses for you and your loved ones. When such costs come about as a result of another person’s irresponsible behavior, they should be held accountable for the personal, physical, and financial damage they have caused.
At Goodman Acker P.C., we are dedicated to helping those who suffer injuries as a result of an accident. If you have been hurt while riding a bike as a result of another person’s carelessness, we may be able to help you recover the compensation you need to afford your medical bills and make up for the loss and suffering you have experienced.
