Nicole McCarthy

Nicole McCarthy’s legal aspirations began in the second grade when she had the privilege of representing “The Bears” in their lawsuit against Goldilocks in the annual school play – and won! She went on to major in political science at Michigan State University, studying comparative politics and taking a special interest in how other nations facilitate litigation. As a student, she also had the opportunity to intern for a Democratic representative in the Michigan House of Representatives, working as a constituent liaison and assisting the fight to protect Michigan’s land, air, and water resources.

Taking a short break between undergraduate and law school studies, Nicole worked in human resources, which gave her unique insight into the hardship and devastation personal injuries can cause healthy, hardworking families and individuals. In that same role, she witnessed the immense challenges facing new immigrants, individuals in recovery, and women, by institutions favoring the status quo.

At Western Michigan Law School, Nicole participated in Moot Court and was the Tax Club president. She graduated with her Juris Doctorate and a Tax and Business concentration. This makes her uniquely suited to help clients with business and self-employment losses due to someone else’s negligence or due to the insurance company’s refusal to honor contracts to pay wage loss and economic loss. Following graduation, she began working in personal injury and continues to concentrate her practice in this field. In addition to her primary focus, she enjoys the opportunity to assist business clients in matters of litigation. She has tried cases in Wayne, Oakland, Kent, and even Gratiot County (where she grew up) and has argued on behalf of clients at the Michigan Court of Appeals.

When given the opportunity to join the team at Goodman Acker, Nicole had absolutely no hesitation, because she knew the reputation of its attorneys and that justice was the firm’s primary goal. She says,”There is nothing as rewarding as hearing the relief in the client’s voice when we deliver them the justice they deserve, and a chance to be whole again.”

Nicole is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Michigan Association for Justice, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. She is also proud of her work as an independent observer for the League of Women Voters during the 2020 presidential election.

When not practicing law, Nicole spends time with her family traveling throughout Michigan and beyond. She is also an avid fan of the Detroit Pistons and loves attending games at LCA with friends and family. Above all, Nicole has a passionate and vested interest in autism advocacy and fundraising for Autism Alliance of Michigan.
