Flint, Michigan is in a state of emergency. For over 18 months, its residents have been drinking contaminated water with toxic levels of lead. Children and adults alike are suffering the short term and potential lifelong impact of being poisoned by lead in their water.
Goodman Acker P.C. has a strong commitment to our community and took action to help the residents of Flint. Our Detroit personal injury law firm teamed up with State Representative Jeremy Moss (D-Southfield) to host a collection drive of goods needed in Flint the week of January 25th.
Goodman Acker donated 3,200 bottles of water and other supplies as well as rented a 26-foot truck to deliver the goods on Friday, January 29, 2016. In addition, the attorneys, paralegals, and all supporting staff at Goodman Acker P.C. coordinated efforts to seek out donations from the local community and other entities the office partners with. Our office was used as a drop-off point for the local community to stop by and drop off donations.
State Representative Moss had also coordinated efforts with the City of Southfield to designate the Southfield Public Library as a drop-off point for collections. Those who did not live in Southeast Michigan and wanted to donate did so by sending donations via mail to our Goodman Acker P.C. offices.
Due to the generous donations received, we are thrilled to announce that the Goodman Acker Flint Collection Drive was a success, collecting several tons of bottled and/or jugged water and ready-to-feed baby food. All donations and supplies collected filled the entire 26-foot truck and were delivered to the residents of Flint on Friday, January 29 by Goodman Acker P.C. Attorney Jordan Acker and State Representative Moss.
Gerald Acker, senior partner at the firm, stated, “Goodman Acker has been committed for more than 30 years to provide assistance to those in need. We were proud to hear that through our efforts and those of the community, we were able to collect enough donations to fill a 26-foot truck. Goodman Acker has and will continue to give back to the community. It’s important to us to be the best lawyers that we can be, but it’s just as important to us to help our community be the best that it can be.”
The City of Southfield covered the day Acker and Rep. Moss delivered the donations. You can watch the video below.
